Originally called “Grand Hotel” Usumbura, Burundi Palace Hotel was built in 1946 in what is now the heart of Bujumbura, its Bauhaus architectural style was very common in these years in East Africa. The building had many different lives until today. In 1992 the most famous burundian movie “Gito l’Ingrat” was produced mainly within the Burundi Palace Hotel. After being turned into offices called Burundi Palace Office it was finally decided to restore it back into a hotel in 2019.
